What happened

One of Latin America's worst recent tragedies

The earthquakes destroyed buildings in Caracas, La Guaira and nearby communities. Rescue teams are working against the clock, amid rain, aftershocks and collapsed infrastructure.

La Guaira has been declared a disaster zone. Thousands of families are homeless and without access to clean water or power.

⛑️ Rescue underway

International search-and-rescue teams from the UN, France and Switzerland are on the ground. Every hour matters for those still trapped under the rubble.

🩺 Urgent need

There is a shortage of medical supplies, temporary shelter, food and support for the more than 51,000 people still unaccounted for.
